MEMOLUB HPS

Automatic lubrication upgrade for Skako motovibrators.

Context

A quarry operating in the lime extraction sector sought to improve the reliability of its vibrating screen equipment. Each screen, a SOMESTRA model, was fitted with two Skako motovibrators powered by 4 kW motors. These motovibrators operated at a constant speed of 1,000 RPM and were equipped with NJ 2314 EC41 bearings. Given the heavy-duty operation and environmental conditions, consistent lubrication of these bearings was essential to avoid costly maintenance and equipment failure.

Problem

The lubrication of the motovibrator bearings was performed manually, but in a highly inconsistent manner, and in some cases, not at all. As a result, the average lifespan of the bearings was limited to just 18 months. The irregular lubrication schedule left the equipment vulnerable to premature wear, increasing the risk of unplanned downtime and added replacement costs.

Solution

To address this, the site installed one MEMOLUB HPS automatic lubricator per screen, filled with Castrol Tribol GR 400-2 PD grease. Each system was connected to a 4-output distributor, lubricating two bearings per motovibrator, four in total per screen. The lubricators were configured for a refill cycle every three months, ensuring regular and precise lubrication delivery without manual intervention.

Results

Since the installation of the MEMOLUB systems, there have been no bearing failures reported. The automated lubrication has extended bearing life way beyond the previous 18-month limit, improved equipment reliability, and eliminated the need for inconsistent manual greasing. The upgrade has proven to be a cost-effective and low-maintenance solution for protecting critical rotating components in a demanding extraction environment.
