MEMOLUB VISIO PRO

Smarter lubrication for railway manufacturing in Hungary.

BACKGROUND

In Hungary, at a leading railway vehicle manufacturer, welding is a critical process in wagon assembly. To carry out this work efficiently, the factory relies on a wagon-turning machine that rotates the heavy workpieces during welding operations. The machine is built on robust vertical guide columns positioned at both ends of the structure. A rotating support ring grips the wagon body and travels up and down along these columns, allowing precise positioning for welding. This motion creates sliding-bearing contact between the support ring and the guide columns, an area where heavy loads and continuous friction make reliable lubrication essential to maintain smooth operation and extend the service life of the equipment.

THE PROBLEM

According to the manufacturer’s maintenance manual, the vertical guide columns of the wagon-turning machine must be lubricated every six months. While the interval appears manageable, the task is highly time-consuming and requires the machine to be stopped during maintenance. Each lubrication cycle interrupts production, reduces output, and adds to labor costs.

Manual lubrication also lacks consistency. The amount of grease applied depends on the operator, which increases the risk of under-lubrication leading to premature wear, or over-lubrication resulting in wasted product and potential contamination. For a facility that relies on uninterrupted wagon assembly, these inefficiencies created unnecessary downtime, higher costs, and avoidable strain on critical equipment.

THE SOLUTION

To address the maintenance challenge, the wagon-turning machine was equipped with the Memolub Visio Pro automatic lubrication system. Each unit was prefilled with Castrol Tribol GR 1350-2.5 PD, a premium high-performance grease formulated for heavy-duty industrial applications. Once installed, the Memolub system was programmed to deliver the precise quantity of lubricant required by the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions, directly to the sliding-bearing contact surfaces between the support ring and the guide columns.

This solution eliminates the need for manual intervention and ensures continuous, accurate lubrication without requiring production stoppages or machine disassembly. By automating the process, lubrication becomes both consistent and reliable, protecting the guide columns against wear, reducing the risk of failure, and guaranteeing smoother operation of the wagon-turning system.

Results

  • Lower maintenance effort: Manual greasing tasks are no longer required, freeing up maintenance personnel for higher-value activities.
  • Improved reliability: Consistent, automatic lubrication reduces friction and wear, extending the service life of the guide columns and rotating system.
  • Optimized lubricant usage: The system delivers the exact amount of Castrol Tribol GR 1350-2.5 PD at programmed intervals, preventing both over- and under-lubrication.
  • Financial and operational efficiency: Long-term benefits include lower costs, fewer unplanned stoppages, and improved productivity across the welding line.
