This case study focuses on the lubrication of Rollix bearings with diameters of 1 meter (small crown) and 2 meters (large crown). These bearings operate at slow speeds 24/7 and are subjected to temperatures of 100°C, using standard EP grease. The project was implemented for a major aerospace manufacturing company specializing in the construction of aircraft and rocket engines, highlighting the need for efficient and reliable bearing maintenance in challenging conditions.

Ensuring consistent lubrication for Rollix bearings in high-temperature conditions.
CONTEXT
PROBLEM
Manual lubrication was inconsistent due to the difficult access, requiring operators to crawl under the furnace. This not only posed safety risks but also necessitated shutting down the furnace for maintenance, disrupting operations.
SOLUTION
Several 240cc Memolub HPS automatic lubricators were installed, utilising each a splitter kit to deliver the Castrol Firedamp XT2 grease to the correct greasing points. For the large crown, the system was set to expel 2.4 cm³ of grease every 6 hours, with a cartridge replacement frequency of three months. For the small crown, it expelled 1.2 cm³ of grease every 12 hours, with a cartridge replacement frequency of six months.
RESULTS
The Memolub HPS systems have been operating successfully for 12 years, maintaining the Rollix bearings in excellent condition. The lubrication process has become significantly safer and easier for maintenance personnel, ensuring continuous and efficient furnace operation. This solution has proven to be highly effective in maintaining the reliability and longevity of the Rollix bearings, while also enhancing the safety and efficiency of the maintenance process.
