At one of the largest steel plants in the world, the rolling mill serves as a cornerstone of the production process. In this system, metal plates are passed through powerful rollers to reduce their thickness and transform them into thinner sheets, meeting the precise specifications required for diverse industrial applications. To ensure the quality of the finished products, operators closely monitor the machine’s parameters. The rolling mill is a critical asset, and its optimal performance directly impacts production efficiency and product quality.

MEMOLUB HPS
Enhancing efficiency in steel rolling mills.
CONTEXT
PROBLEM
The rolling mill’s bearings were experiencing significant challenges that hampered performance and increased operational costs. High friction and wear were recurring issues, demanding frequent lubrication to maintain smooth operation. The intense pressure exerted during the rolling process generated heat, which degraded lubricants quickly, requiring regular reapplication. Dust and other contaminants frequently entered the bearings, making lubrication essential to flush out impurities and preserve functionality. These factors led to frequent maintenance, costly downtime, and increased risks for maintenance personnel.
SOLUTION
To address these challenges, 12 equipped extensions, each fitted with 8 Memolub HPS units of 240cc capacity, were installed. The adjustment process, completed over a month, ensured precise lubrication across all critical points. The Memolub HPS system provided consistent, automated lubrication, effectively reducing friction, heat buildup, and the impact of contaminants on the bearings. This comprehensive solution eliminated the need for frequent manual lubrication and enhanced the operational efficiency of the rolling mill.
RESULTS
The installation of the Memolub HPS units significantly improved the rolling mill’s performance. Regular and precise lubrication extended the lifespan of components, reducing the frequency of replacements and minimizing manual interventions. This led to a substantial decrease in maintenance downtime, allowing for uninterrupted production and increased productivity.
By mitigating excessive wear and tear, the Memolub HPS system drastically lowered costs associated with spare parts and repairs. The reduced need for manual lubrication also enhanced workplace safety, lowering the risk of accidents and injuries among maintenance staff. Furthermore, the system’s precision and efficiency minimized lubricant waste and reduced energy consumption, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly operation.
