In a food production facility, a 5-meter-long freezing chain operates under extreme conditions at -38°C to preserve product quality. Regular lubrication is essential for maintaining optimal performance. Traditionally, this task was performed manually every two weeks during a defrost cycle, when the temperature was raised to 8°C.

MEMOLUB EPS
Automating Chain Lubrication in Freezing Conditions
Context
Problem
The manual lubrication process presented several challenges. It required an operator to work under difficult conditions, performing a tedious 15- to 20-minute task every weekend while the chain operated at a slower speed. The lack of adequate protection during this maintenance activity further compounded safety concerns, highlighting the need for a more efficient and safer solution.
Solution
To address these issues, the Memolub EPS 24V DC system was installed, featuring a 30mm-wide brush and Castrol's Viscoleb 280 lubricant. Positioned outside the refrigerated enclosure, the system was connected to a programmable clock, enabling automated lubrication cycles. These cycles were scheduled during the night, ensuring that the ambient temperature reached at least 5°C for optimal application.
Results
The implementation of Memolub EPS automatic lubricators transformed the maintenance process. Regular and precise lubrication ensured consistent performance and significantly reduced long-term maintenance costs. Additionally, the solution improved the working conditions for maintenance staff, who no longer needed to perform this demanding task manually on Sundays under extreme temperatures. On top we enhanced equipment reliability, reduced machine downtime, and optimised preventive maintenance.
